P0AB9 Meaning

The generator control module, also referred to as the starter generator control module, includes the following three control modules: the hybrid powertrain control module, the 14-volt power supply module, and the drive motor control module. These three control modules are not serviceable and are part of the generator control module.
The eAssist hybrid system has the capability to start and crank the engine using two different methods. The first method is a conventional 12-volt system. During every initial start, the conventional 12-volt starter and 12-volt battery are used to start and crank the engine.

The second starting method uses both the 115-volt generator control and the battery assembly, also called the EV hybrid battery pack, and the starter generator, also called the drive motor. The drive motor is a three-phase AC induction machine. This device not only serves as a 115-volt AC generator, it is also used to provide electrical assistance to the engine and to start the engine in auto-stop mode. If the system is in auto-stop mode and does not restart with the drive motor, the conventional 12-volt starter will automatically engage to start the engine.

The drive motor can quickly spin the engine to operating speed (800 RPM). The hybrid powertrain control module can detect a condition where the engine is stalling and command the drive motor to spin the engine to prevent a stall.

The battery current sensor, which is mounted on the positive side of the HV battery assembly cable, detects the amperage flowing into the HV battery. The battery intelligent unit inputs a voltage, varying between 0 and 5 V proportionally to the amperage, into terminal IB from the battery current sensor. A battery current sensor output voltage lower than 2.5 V indicates the HV battery is discharging, and higher than 2.5 V indicates the HV battery is charging. The power management control ECU determines the HV battery charging and discharging amperage based on the
