P0A1A TOYOTA Technical Notes

Toyota recently released a warranty extension for 2010-2014 Prius, extending coverage for the inverter/converter intelligent power module.

Toyota Bulletin Information:

Toyota has received some reports that the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) located inside the hybrid system inverter assembly may fail. This condition is indicated by Hybrid System Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): P0A94, P324E, P3004 and/or P0A1A. If one or more of these trouble codes are detected, various warning lights on the dashboard also illuminate and the vehicle enters fail-safe mode.
Although the hybrid inverter assembly is covered by Toyota’s new vehicle limited warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first), we at Toyota care about customers’ ownership experience. Toyota is now extending warranty coverage for repairs related to Intelligent Power Module (IPM) failure.

When Is P0A1A TOYOTA Code Detected?

The MG ECU located in the inverter with converter assembly monitors its internal operation and sets DTCs when it detects malfunctions.
P0A1A TOYOTA

Possible Symptoms

Check engine light illuminated (or service engine soon warning light)

P0A1A Toyota Description

The MG ECU performs many diagnostic tests to verify proper operation of internal ECU systems. In one of these tests, the MG ECU checks the result of the generator CPU self-test. If the MG ECU detects a failure from the generator CPU self-test, it will conclude there is an internal malfunction in the generator CPU. The Power Management Control ECU (HV CPU) will illuminate the MIL and set a DTC.
