P1214 GMC Possible Causes
- Fuel injection pump gear alignment
- Fuel filter restriction
- Transfer pump inlet restriction
- Faulty fuel injection pump
How is GMC P1214 Code Repaired?
Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.
Technical Notes
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1214 is stored in memory after installing a replacement ECC or replacing the fuel injection pump.
Perform the Top Dead Center (TDC) offset procedure to ensure proper injection pump timing. Follow the procedure below:
1. First, perform the Passlock anti-theft relearn procedure.
2. Install a suitable scan tool.
3. Using the scan tool, clear any existing DTCs.
4. Start the engine and bring it to operating temperature. Stop the engine.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, engine off (not running).
6. Fully depress the accelerator for at least 45 seconds.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for 30 seconds.
8. Restart the engine. Using the scan tool, verify that the TDC offset has been reset.
9. Start the engine and bring it to operating temperature, engine speed below 1500 RPM.
10. Using the scan tool, check that the TDC offset is between -0.25 and -0.75. If the TDC offset is within specifications, the relearn procedure is complete. 11. If the TDC is not within specifications, it will be necessary to reset the
injection pump timing. Follow the procedure described in the service manual.
Possible Symptoms
- Engine light on (or engine service soon warning light)
P1214 GMC Meaning
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the crankshaft position via the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP). The CKP information is used to determine the amount of injection timing offset required for proper operation. This code will set if the TDC offset is greater than +2.46 degrees or less than -2.46 degrees. It looks like you need to perform a TDC offset learning procedure.
