P1181 SAAB – Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Maximum Value Air/Fuel Too Lean

Posted by

P1181 SAAB Possible Causes

  • Intake air leaks
  • Low fuel pressure
  • Faulty mass air flow (MAF) sensor
  • Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
  • Poor electrical connection in mass air flow sensor circuit

How to Fix SAAB P1181 Code?

Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

Possible Symptoms

  • Engine light on (or service engine soon warning light)

P1181 SAAB Meaning

The engine’s fuel requirement was 5 mg/stroke higher at idle than what the control module calculated using the mass air flow sensor information.
The fault diagnosis first determines whether the pressure sensors display approximately the same value with the ignition ON, as the mass air flow sensor is later compared to the intake air pressure. If the pressure sensors are in good condition but the mass air flow sensor is incorrect, check for air leaks after the throttle and subsequently replace the mass air flow sensor.
If the air mass is correct, then the fuel supply must be checked, i.e., pressure, pressure response, pump flow, and then the injectors.
