The data is used to calculate air density and determine the engine’s mass air flow rate, which in turn determines the required fuel delivery for optimal combustion. A fuel-injected engine may also use a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor to detect intake air flow. A typical configuration uses one or the other, but rarely both. The MAP/BARO Switch Solenoid Valve switches the air flow passage based on the voltage signal sent by the ECM.
