P1092 – VVEL Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit, Bank 2

Posted by

P1092 Possible Causes

  • Faulty VVEL control shaft position sensor, bank 2
  • VVEL control shaft position sensor bank 2 harness is open or shorted
  • Poor electrical connection in VVEL control shaft position sensor circuit, bank 2
  • Faulty VVEL control module

How to Fix Code P1092?

Start by checking the “Possible Causes” listed above. Visually inspect the corresponding wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

Possible Symptoms

Illuminated engine light (or service engine soon warning light)

P1092 Meaning

VVEL (Variable Valve Event & Lift) is a system that continuously controls valve event and valve lift. The rotational movement of the drive shaft equipped with an eccentric cam is transmitted to the output cam via the rocker arm and two types of links to push the intake valve. The engine control module (ECM) decides the target valve lift based on driving conditions and sends the control signal to the VVEL control module. The VVEL control module controls the rotation of the control shaft using the VVEL actuator motor and changes the output cam movement by shifting the linkage pivot point. As a result, valve lift changes continuously to improve engine power and response.
The VVEL control shaft position sensor (1) is placed on the VVEL actuator sub-assembly and detects the position angle of the control shaft. A magnet is pressed into the arm on the edge of the control shaft.
The magnetic field changes when the magnet rotates with the arm, resulting in a change in the sensor’s output voltage. The VVEL control module detects the actual position angle through the voltage change and sends the signal to the ECM.
