FORD Error Code B0020: Causes, Symptoms and Repair

🚨 Meaning of FORD Code B0020

Code B0020 is related to the vehicle’s Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). It is recorded when the Restraint Control Module (RCM) detects a short circuit between the driver’s seat side airbag circuits and another SRS component.

When this fault is detected, the airbag warning light illuminates on the dashboard.

🔎 Possible Causes

FORD code B0020 can be triggered by several issues, including:

  • Faulty left seat side airbag
  • Damaged left seat side airbag wiring harness (open or shorted wire)
  • Poor electrical connection in the left seat airbag circuit

❗ Associated Symptoms

  • Airbag light illuminated on the dashboard

🛠️ How to Repair FORD Code B0020?

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors of the left seat side airbag.
  2. Check electrical connections, look for broken, bent, pushed in or corroded connector pins.
  3. Look for any damaged components and replace them if necessary.
  4. Clear the error code using a diagnostic tool after repair and check if it reappears.

📌 When is the Code Detected?

This code is set when the RCM detects a short circuit between the driver’s seat side airbag circuits and another SRS component.

When the system’s normal loop is repaired (short circuit, open circuit or low resistance), the signal cross-coupling diagnostic automatically resumes.
