E-Shift: Features, Advantages, and Disadvantages

Posted by

E-Shift is the name of a manual shifting system for automatic transmissions installed on Jeep and Lexus vehicles. The transmission is electronically controlled. In Jeep vehicles, this system appeared in 2014 when the Grand Cherokee with the 8-speed automatic transmission debuted. In Lexus vehicles, it began to be used quite early: in 1999 on the IS sedan.

FEATURES

The main distinguishing feature of the E-Shift system in Jeeps is the design of the gear selector, which allows the driver to choose the driving mode and switch to manual mode. The lever returns to its initial position after each movement. The lever has built-in LED lights, which inform about the current transmission mode.

In Lexus vehicles, the E-Shift lever has a more conventional design. It remains in a selected position until the driver changes the mode. Additionally, paddle shifters can be used to change gears in manual mode.
