P1247 – Low turbo boost pressure

Posted by

What does code P1247 mean?

This error code indicates that the boost pressure generated by the turbocharger is lower than expected. The pressure sensor (MAP) sends information to the engine control module (PCM), and if the measured pressure does not match what the system expects, then code P1247 is recorded.

This may indicate a problem with the turbo, boost pipes, or the sensor itself.

Possible symptoms:

  • Engine light on (Check Engine)

  • Loss of engine power, especially during acceleration

  • Engine running irregularly or lacking responsiveness

Possible causes:

  • MAP sensor hose damaged or disconnected

  • Leak in the intake system (manifold, boost pipe, etc.)

  • Turbo boost too low (clogged turbo, faulty regulator valve)

  • Faulty MAP sensor

  • Engine control module (PCM) faulty (less common)

How to fix code P1247?

  1. Start with a visual inspection of the turbo hoses, intake pipes, and wiring around the MAP sensor.

  2. Look for signs of air leaks or loose pipes.

  3. Check if the MAP sensor is working properly, using a diagnostic tool.

  4. Check the turbocharger performance: low boost may come from a stuck wastegate or clogging.

  5. As a last resort, if all components are good, consider checking the PCM.

🔧 Tip: Low turbo pressure can lead to noticeable power loss and higher fuel consumption. It is best to have the system checked quickly to avoid damaging other components.
