P1246 Possible Causes
- Faulty alternator/generator
- Alternator/generator harness is open or shorted
- Poor electrical connection in alternator/generator circuit
- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
How is code P1246 repaired?
Start by checking the “Possible Causes” listed above. Visually inspect the wiring harness and associated connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.
Possible Symptoms
- Engine light on (or maintenance engine warning light soon)
P1246 Meaning
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the generator load from the generator/regulator as a frequency. The frequency range is determined by the voltage regulator temperature where 97% represents full load, below 6% means no load.
