P1239 CHRYSLER Possible Causes
- Engine oil
- Faulty engine oil temperature sensor
- Engine oil temperature sensor harness is open or shorted
- Poor electrical connection in the engine oil temperature sensor circuit
- Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
How is the P1239 CHRYSLER code repaired?
Start by checking the “Possible Causes” listed above. Visually inspect the wiring harness and associated connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.
Possible Symptoms
- Engine light on (or service engine soon warning light)
P1239 CHRYSLER Meaning
The Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) sensor is a variable resistor that measures the engine oil temperature. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides a 5-volt reference and ground to the low reference signal sensor circuit. When the oil temperature is low, the sensor resistance is high. When the oil temperature is high, the sensor resistance is low. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1239 is set when the engine oil temperature rises slower than a calibrated modeled temperature. When the actual oil temperature falls below the lower limit of the calibrated modeled temperature for three minutes, the fault is set. Fault requires two trips. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.
