P1236 FORD – Fuel Pump Control Out of Range

Posted by

P1236 FORD Possible Causes

  • Faulty Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM)
  • FPDM harness is open or shorted
  • Poor electrical connection in FPDM circuit
  • Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

How to Fix P1236 FORD Code?

Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the corresponding wiring harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

Technical Notes

Note: For LS6/LS8 and Thunderbird, FPDM functions are integrated into the Rear Electronic Module (REM). Additionally, the REM does not use an FPM circuit. Diagnostic information is sent via the communication link.

Possible Symptoms

  • Engine light on (or service engine soon warning light)

P1236 FORD Meaning

The P1236 code indicates that the Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) has detected an invalid or missing fuel pump (FP) circuit signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The FPDM sends a message to the PCM via the FPM circuit, indicating that this fault has been detected. The PCM sets the DTC when the message is received.
