P1192 JEEP Meaning
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is a 2-wire thermistor; as the intake air temperature increases, the thermistor’s resistance and signal voltage decrease. When the engine is cold, voltage is sent through a high-resistance circuit in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When the engine is hot, voltage is sent through a low-resistance circuit in the PCM. The dual-circuit PCM improves the accuracy of the IAT’s overall temperature ranges. The PCM monitors the IAT voltage to help determine air density, due to temperature, for fuel calculations. The circuit is monitored while the engine is running. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is set when the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor voltage is below 0.5 volts.
