P1153 CHEVROLET Possible Causes
- Faulty Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), Bank 2 Sensor 1
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Bank 2 Sensor 1 harness open or shorted
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), Bank 2, Sensor 1 circuit, poor electrical connection
How to Fix Code P1153 CHEVROLET?
Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the corresponding wiring harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.
When is the Code Detected?
A DTC P1153 sets when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) determines that the HO2S has not switched enough times.
Possible Symptoms
- Engine Light On (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P1153 CHEVROLET Meaning
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) activity for 100 seconds. During this monitoring period, the PCM counts the number of times the HO2S switches from rich to lean and lean to rich.
A lean to rich switch is determined when the HO2S voltage goes from below 300 mV to above 600 mV. A rich to lean switch is determined when the HO2S voltage goes from above 600 mV to below 300 mV.
