P1144 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN – Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 Shift Rich Monitor

Posted by

P1144 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN Possible Causes

  • Faulty heated front oxygen sensor, bank 1
  • Open or short circuit in the heated front oxygen sensor bank 1 wiring harness
  • Poor electrical connection in the heated front oxygen sensor circuit, bank 1
  • Inappropriate fuel pressure
  • Faulty fuel injectors
  • Intake air leaks may be faulty
  • Exhaust gas leaks

How to Fix Code P1144 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN?

Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the corresponding wiring harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

Technical Notes

Replacing the O2 sensor 1, bank 1, usually resolves the issue.

When is the Code Detected?

An excessively high sensor voltage is sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM).

Possible Symptoms

  • Engine light on (or engine warning light soon to be on)
  • High fuel consumption
  • Excessive exhaust smoke

P1144 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN Meaning

The heated front oxygen sensor (or O2 sensor 1) is placed in the exhaust manifold. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gases compared to the outside air. The heated oxygen sensor 1 has a closed-end zirconia ceramic tube. Zirconia generates a voltage of about 1 V under rich conditions to 0 V under lean conditions. The signal from the heated oxygen sensor 1 is sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM adjusts the injection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio. The ideal air-fuel ratio occurs near the sharp change from 1V to 0V.
