P0C4A – Hybrid/EV Battery Coolant Pump Performance

Posted by

P0C4A Possible Causes

  • Faulty hybrid/EV battery cooling pump
  • Hybrid/EV battery cooling pump wiring harness open or shorted
  • Poor electrical connection in hybrid/EV battery cooling pump circuit

What Does It Mean?

How to Fix Code P0C4A

Check the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the wiring harness and related connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

P0C4A Possible Symptoms

Check engine light on (or service engine soon warning light)

P0C4A Meaning

The hybrid/EV battery pack cooling pump circulates coolant through the drive motor battery cooling radiator, drive motor battery cooling cooler, and hybrid/EV battery pack to control the temperature of the hybrid/EV battery pack. An activation signal from the hybrid/EV powertrain control module 2 to the hybrid/EV battery pack cooling pump provides overall pump control. When this circuit is high, the pump can operate. The pump is controlled by a pulse width modulated signal from the hybrid/EV powertrain control module 2 to the hybrid/EV battery pack cooling pump. The higher the duty cycle, the higher the pump speed. The hybrid/EV battery cooling pump provides a hardwired pulse width modulated feedback signal to the hybrid/EV powertrain control module 2. During normal operation, this feedback signal provides pump speed information to the hybrid/EV powertrain control module 2. The hybrid/EV battery pack cooling pump has self-diagnostic capability. If the hybrid/EV battery cooling pump determines there is an internal fault, it provides this information on this same feedback circuit instead of the pump speed information.
