P0AF0 – Drive Motor A Inverter Temperature Sensor Circuit

Posted by

P0AF0 Possible Causes

  • Faulty inverter with converter assembly
  • Inverter with open or shorted converter assembly harness
  • Inverter with poor electrical connection in converter assembly circuit
  • Faulty HV control ECU

What Does It Mean?

How to Fix Code P0AF0

Check the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the cable harness and related connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

P0AF0 Possible Symptoms

Check engine light illuminated (or service engine soon warning light)

P0AF0 Meaning

The HV control ECU uses a temperature sensor integrated into the inverter to detect the motor inverter temperature. The same cooling system routed to MG1 and MG2 cools the inverter. This cooling system is independent of the engine cooling system.

The motor inverter temperature sensor has the same characteristics as the boost converter temperature sensor.
The HV control ECU limits the load based on signals from the motor inverter temperature sensor to verify the effectiveness of the inverter cooling system and prevent the inverter from overheating. Additionally, the HV control ECU detects malfunctions in the motor drive temperature sensor wiring as well as in the sensor itself.
