B0024 – Driver Front Deployment Loop Stage 1 or Stage 2 Tension Out of Range

Posted by

B0024 Possible Causes

  • Faulty clockspring module coil
  • Clockspring module coil harness is open or shorted
  • Poor electrical connection in the clockspring module coil circuit
  • Faulty clockspring module

How is B0024 Code Repaired?

Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the corresponding cable harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

Possible Symptoms

  • Airbag warning light illuminated

B0024 Meaning

The driver deployment loop consists of the following:
– A two-stage inflatable restraint steering wheel module
– The steering wheel inflatable restraint module coil
– The high circuits of the steering wheel module for both stages 1 and 2
– The low circuits of the steering wheel module for both stages 1 and 2
There are 2 shorting bars used in the steering wheel module coil connector. These shorting bars short together both stages of the steering wheel module high circuit and the steering wheel module low circuit when the connector is disconnected. This helps prevent unwanted deployment of the inflator module during maintenance. During a frontal collision of sufficient force, the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) will allow current to flow in the deployment loop. This current flow will deploy the steering wheel module. The SDM performs continuous diagnostic tests on the deployment loops to check for proper circuit continuity and shorts to ground or voltage. If a malfunction is detected, a DTC will be stored in memory.
