B0021 BUICK – Passenger Seat Side Airbag Deployment Loop

Posted by

B0021 BUICK Possible Causes

  • Faulty passenger seat side airbag
  • Passenger seat side airbag harness is open or shorted
  • Poor electrical connection in passenger seat side airbag circuit
  • Faulty Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM)

How to Fix B0021 BUICK Code?

Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

Technical Notes

B0021 BUICK Meaning

If a malfunction is detected, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored in non-volatile memory. During a side or frontal collision of sufficient force, the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) will allow current to flow through the deployment loop to deploy the passenger seat side airbag. The SDM performs continuous diagnostic tests on the deployment loops to verify proper circuit continuity and shorts to ground or voltage. A shorting bar is used in the passenger seat side airbag connector that will short the high and low circuits when the connector is disconnected. This helps prevent unwanted airbag deployment during servicing.
