B0013 SATURN Possible Causes
- Faulty steering wheel inflator module
- Faulty steering wheel module coil
- Steering wheel inflator module wiring harness open or shorted
- Poor electrical connection in the steering wheel inflator module circuit
- Faulty Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM)
How to Fix B0013 SATURN Code?
Start by checking the “possible causes” listed above. Visually inspect the corresponding wiring harness and connectors. Look for damaged components and check for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector pins.

B0013 SATURN Meaning
If a malfunction is detected, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored in non-volatile memory. During a frontal collision of sufficient force, the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) of the inflatable restraint system will allow current to flow into the deployment loop to deploy the steering wheel module. The SDM performs continuous diagnostic tests on the deployment loops to verify proper circuit continuity and shorts to ground or voltage. There are 2 shorting bars used in each connector that will short together the stage 1 steering wheel module high circuit and the stage 1 steering wheel module low circuit and the stage 2 steering wheel module high circuit and the stage 2 steering wheel module low circuit when the connector is disconnected. This helps prevent accidental deployment of the inflator module during service.
Precautions for SRS “AIRBAG” and “SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER” Service
- Never test the electrical connectors of airbags, side air curtain modules, or seat belts.
- Never disassemble or modify the seat belt buckle/retractor pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, seat belt inflators, and never test their electrical connectors.
- Do not use electrical test equipment to check SRS circuits unless instructed otherwise in this service manual.
- Before servicing the SRS, turn the ignition switch to OFF, disconnect both battery cables, and wait at least 3 minutes. For approximately 3 minutes after removing the cables, it is still possible for the airbag and seat belt pretensioner to deploy. Therefore, do not work on any SRS connector or wiring until at least 3 minutes have passed.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental deployment of these modules, increasing the risk of serious injury or death.
