B0012 Meaning
If a malfunction is detected, a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be stored in non-volatile memory. During a frontal collision of sufficient force, the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) of the inflatable restraint system will allow current to flow through the deployment loop to deploy the steering wheel module. The SDM performs continuous diagnostic tests on the deployment loops to verify proper circuit continuity and shorts to ground or voltage. There are 2 shorting bars used in each connector that will short together the stage 1 steering wheel module high circuit and stage 1 steering wheel module low circuit and stage 2 steering wheel module high circuit and stage 2 steering wheel module low circuit when the connector is disconnected. This helps prevent unwanted deployment of the inflator module during maintenance.
